  Dave Townson reminded me that

EMPRESS OF CANADA maiden voyage 50 years ago - 24th April 1961

Messages from

Peter Embleton -

Memories both good and bad but at least we knew her in her prime. Time certainly
slips by fast.

Bill McAllister

I  remember it well. For some reason, I particularly remember Dr Jensen  walking up and down on the bridge on departure, no doubt for the benefit of the media. We had all the major newspaper reporters sailing with us and had to radio their various reports back to their respective editors on a nightly basis. It was as a result of the volume of traffic and hence the radio room literally overheating that Peter MacNab had special vents cut into desk tops,  under which the power units were housed, to dissipate the heat from the units which kept 'tripping out'
Happy days

It just seems like yesterday

My association with her goes back even further, I was working on her before she was launched

The World was so young in 1961 - how time flies! Many fond memories of a formative part of my life and a first voyage to sea and foreign parts
